1. Jim Harris - Fine Artist
Gallery: Jim Harris ArtWorX Studio, Staunton
Bio: My philosophy of art is simple: I paint what I want; if someone else is moved by it, that's great! I derive great joy from selling my original paintings to people who truly love them!
JIm Harris ArtWorX Studio is my home studio from which I produce my 'stained-glass-canvas' acrylic paintings. I have a degree in Art (oils, watercolor) from James Madison University, but for 34 years I have been an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church. In 2004 I retired from full-time ministry, but I still serve part-time as the minister of congregational care at Verona UMC, Verona, VA. I opened my studio the same year that I retired, and I have joined several local arts organizations: Central Shenandoah Arts, OASIS Gallery, Shenandoah Council of the Arts and the Shenandoah Valley Art Center.
I create colorful acrylic paintings that tend to remind the viewer of stained glass. I call these paintings my 'stained-glass-canvas' works. They are obviously influenced by years of church work, though they generally are not 'religious' or 'spiritual' in nature. An exception to this is the Christian Icon paintings I produce in the 'stained-glass-canvas' style. My 'stained-glass-canvas' paintings tend to use flowers, still life, and nature as the subject matter, often influenced by the beautiful scenery that exists all around me in the Shenandoah Valley where I chose to live. I also produce coastal themed paintings for my Outer Banks galleries.
I sell my original works, and not prints; and I price them very reasonably in order for ordinary folks to be able to afford them. When you purchase one of my works you become the owner of an original, unique piece of art that no one else in the world owns, and usually for under $100.00. My work is on display at the OASIS Gallery, 103 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, Virginia; The Cheese Shop Sandwich Shop, Stuarts Draft, Virginia; Gaskins Gallery, Avon, Outer Banks, North Carolina, IndianTown Gallery, Buxton, Outer Banks, North Carolina, and at the Yellowhouse Gallery, Nags Head, Outer banks, North Carolina. (I reproduce my work in mini-format as covers for blank-inside greeting cards which I sell through my galleries).
